What is a mini-job?
A mini-job is a marginal employment in which the regular monthly pay does not exceed a certain limit. This form of employment offers both employers and employees flexibility, particularly in the case of short-term or marginal work.
Earnings limit 2025
Since January 1, 2025, the monthly earnings limit for mini-jobs has been 556 euros. This adjustment was made in parallel with the increase in the statutory minimum wage to 12.82 euros per hour. Calculated over the year, this results in a maximum earnings limit of 6,672 euros.
In exceptional cases, the monthly earnings limit may be exceeded in up to two calendar months within a given year, provided that the earnings in these months do not exceed twice the monthly limit, i.e. EUR 1,112.
Working time regulations
The maximum working hours in a mini-job depend on the hourly wage. A minimum wage of 12.82 euros per hour results in a maximum working time of around 43 hours per month. If a higher hourly wage is paid, the permitted working hours are reduced accordingly.
Social security status
Mini-jobs are generally exempt from social security contributions. However, employers pay flat-rate contributions to health and pension insurance. Employees are generally subject to pension insurance, but can be exempted from this upon application. If the earnings limit is exceeded, the employment becomes subject to social security contributions.
